Highlights from Laura's sketchbook because she wanted to post on the doodlewall.

I did this on the plane to school. The words are lines I liked for every song that came up on my iPod.

The one on the left is copied from a magazine, the right is just because I like repetitive things.

I drew this vase that was on my table, but I drew it without details and I like it better this way.

Allison can tell you that I'm really obsessed with repetitive patterns. I think it's because I'm OCD and it soothes me to have control over straight lines that are perfect.

Experimenting with colors one time (I think during Chinese class).

The first one I did of these folding columns things.

Chinese was boring that semester, lots of doodles.

I spent a class trying to draw the trash cans and then ruined it with a beaver tail shadow.

This is a window in Casa Mila, in Barcelona.

  1. Ok, I am jealous for 3 reasons.

    1. You are really good at stuff none of us are (patterns, design stuff).
    2. You are also really good at the stuff we do. (I have a crush on your window and trash cans).
    3. You have been to Barcelona.

    Not cool, Laura, not cool

I really like the triangles. I keep looking at the thinner lines and looking at where they go and it is hypnotic.

Also, have you had any lessons in perspective? Cause the window is amazing. Like, really good.

Also, I love this first one. You came up with so many cool patterns in one page. Some of it looks tribal or something. I feel like you would be good at making tribal tattoos or something.

  2. Pretty good, kid. Pretty good.

You might stand a chance in this business.

    A word of advice?

    More Matt Damon.

  3. Yeah laura, i really really like the zig zaggy ones. a lot. i know i told you that already.

i also really love the wavy lines one because it makes me think of water. just staring at it is really relaxing.

    beaucoup d'amour,

  4. why did you make me sound like an old guy? not just an old guy but like a drug kingpin. i feel like i should be sitting in the shadows smoking a cigar or something.

anyway, laura, guest entries from you are always welcome (i'm still totally blown away by the tote bag you made out of plastic grocery bags). and i'll follow what dakota said: i'm really digging the geometric designs here. none of us do too much of that kind of thing. the fourth and sixth ones are my favorites. your contours of actual objects are pretty solid, too. the drawing of the trash can actually really reminds me of how allison used to draw in high school.

    she's right, though...more matt damon.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

    1. i legit thought that was rachael's comment because recently we were talking about how its kindof lame to pressure each other to comment right away and how we're always nice to each other and we should be more mean, so when i saw rachaels comment i thought she was just being sarcastic and douchey. hahahahah

    2. i don't know what to think about rachael's comment about my drawing in high school. should i

    a. be happy because it means i draw better now
    b. be insulted because she's insinuating that i drew bad in high school
    c. don't choose b because that's insulting to laura

oh well i guess i do know what to think then.

  6. none of the above. your style has just changed a little in the last few years. not better or worse. just different.

  7. Yay I love getting comments!

    Answering questions...
Dakota: I haven't had formal classes in perspective but I do have two architect parents that gave me sketchbooks and drilled it into me. Vanishing points and rulers and all.

Rachel/Allison: I'm not offended about the trash can, I'm sure Allison was a wonderful trash can drawer in high school!

Soon I'll try to comment on y'all's stuff...

    Love Laura
