The Doodlewall
The Doodlewall started as an actual wall, at an independent high school, in sunny southern California. It was a wall where students could post their doodles from class instead of throwing them away in old notebooks. The idea was that anyone's attempts at visual self-expression could be valued as art by some other person and that doodles were worth something more than recyclable paper. In time, the doodlewall grew into a rawther large mural filled side to side with student artwork. But alas! As children tend to do, the first generation of Doodlers grew up (kindof). They graduated and left their wall, and their town, and each other. This blog is an attempt to keep their friendship and the spirit of the doodlewall alive.

hey adam, i actually saw this video a while ago but i think i must have not paid it very much attention because i definitely really appreciate it now where i did not really that first time i saw it.
ReplyDeleteyour childhood art is great. but i really like the editing on this video. i like that its stop motion too, it gives it this fluttering heartbeat, quality. i also really like the parts where the camera is looking around, i also love the repetitive scenes. you guys must've taken a bazillion pictures. oh and i like the stop motion part of driving down the highway and also of the kaleidoscope going in and out of highway scenes too.
its weird cuz you start out with just you in your house and your childhood pictures and then you end with this kaleidoscope highway stuff. it makes me feel like you didn't go into this with a plan and kinda were just at your house doing the kid art and then decided to go outside etc. it would have been cool if by the end you hearkened back to the begining with some more kid art but either way i like this video a lot. you should make a music video for some wild pursuits. OH OH LET ME AND DAKOTA DO IT!!!
I also really like the stop motion. I learned that stop motion often looks really good to western music, because western music and animation both go on fours. I only know how to talk about it in an animation terms, but animation is either 12 or 24 frames per second, and western music is usually the same way, so it really goes well. You're music video is no exception. I really like the fluttery quality, where there are big changes between each shot, it's not smoothly done, in a good way.
ReplyDeleteAlso, neat childhood art. We should all post some. One think I like about your current art is it seems to have that feeling that childhood art has. Low stress, looks fun, great colors that you wouldn't expect. I wish I could create that.
