Smash Can and Ampersands

Hey there! It's me, Adam, with my second ever post.
First thing first, myself and Madelin Siedler designed and spraypainted shirts for our newly formed band, Smash Can.

Madelin's design (it's subtle, but the hyphen-looking-thing is a bottle cap):

My design:
Also, I got my first ever scratchboard (which I really want to do more in), and I made some art for the upcoming EP of my band with Ben Seretan, called &&&&. Hope you guys like it:

  1. holy fuck adam.

sometimes i just hate you. i mean i hate you in a good way. but seriously that scratchboard thing, as soon as i scrolled down to it i jumped back at least a foot, took a deep breath, and then scrolled down because it looks awesome. and what really washes my dishes is that i couldn't even imagine doing something that good, in that style. it really ties my shoes because you're just naturally good at that. pisses me off.

i hope you know that my anger is the greatest compliment.

the only thing i would say about your scratchboard is that it is much heavier on the bottom than on the top, composition-wise, because of the texture you put in the background at the bottom. it loses the contrast between the foreground objects and the black space in the background. (do i sound like an art douche yet?) i kindof like how they are floating in space in the top half. in anycase thats the only thing i would have changed.

also for the second shirt, the colors are so interesting! the first and second shirt have this white-ish background color going on. what color spray paint is that? did you even use spray paint? also, i would never have thought to spray on top of spray. secondly, on the gray shirt even the red color has this weird faded/rusty look to it. is that because its on a gray shirt, as opposed to a white one, so it looks rusty?

also did you use construction paper for the stencils?

  2. p.s. did you plan that out before you scratched it?

  3. OK, like Allison said, the black and white thing is freaking amazing. It actually looks like an awesome shirt design to me. It looks like the scariest space station ever. In fact, I didn't have any ideas for the Bedlam CD, and this is giving me some ideas.

Allison, I don't know how to, but you me and adam need to do some printmaking, like wood cut outs or something, cause after looking at this, I think he would be really, really good at them. It's freaking me out.

And the shirt too. After this, it is scaring me to think that you might be better then me at design. I know I always had to force shit like composition and color theory, but it seems to come to you pretty easily and naturally, which pisses me the fuck off. The lime green one is the best of yours, I think.

And like I said on facebook about the red one, the silhouette inside a silhouette... makin' me jizz. I love it. Plus, I love the detail on the octopus.
